A team from Norwich-based KLM UK
Engineering, playing under the name Flying Dutchmen, won
a £350 prize for best engineering team in the keenly
contested final of the Business and Investment
Management Game.
Five teams from around the
country contested the final, which was played out at the
University of East Anglia over six hours of frenetic
business decisions. They had won through from the 110
starting entries by managing their businesses more
effectively and making greater profits than their
rivals.
The finalists faced the challenge of a
faltering economy, rising interest rates and difficult
cashflow conditions in the early stages. They also had
to cope with the logistical problems arising from major
railway disruption affecting the distribution of their
goods.
At the halfway stage the eventual outright
winner, London property develop-ment firm Regal
Properties, had opened up a narrow lead but profits of
all five finalists were close and all were still in with
a chance of victory.
The Flying Dutchmen were in
second place at the halfway stage and stayed in close
contention until making the difficult decision to accept
a "sacrificial" loss when closing their factory. The
team finished third overall.
Andy Skitt, chairman
of Flying Dutchmen, thought the final game scenario was
a great challenge. |
