Revenue collect national UEA business game final

The Business & Investment Management Game Final, contested at the University of East Anglia, Norwich on Saturday, 14 July, was won by a team of analysts from HM Revenue & Customs.

The five finalists faced the challenge of a 'flat' domestic economy and steadily rising interest rates imposed by the central bank to restrain an inflationary residential property market. During the course of the eight decision periods teams had to cope with difficult cash flow conditions in the early stages and a 'double-whammy' recession with dramatic declines in demand.

At the half way stage the eventual outright winner, HMRC, trailed in fourth place; Mourant led narrowly from Bernard Matthews with London accountants Lewis Golden & Co in third place. The profits of all five BIMG finalists were close and all were still in with a chance of victory. By the end of the day, HMRC had battled its way to a hard fought win over a team from Mourant, the Jersey law firm. The Norwich based organisation Bernard Matthews MANICC was close by in third place.
